How to upgrade 2008-2012 Mazda 6 Radio to DVD player navigation system

Hello friends, I’m a owner of Mazda 6. I love my Mazda 6. But once I run into the unfamiliar environment, I found it’s hard to drive without a navigation. The Mazda 6 Radio is pretty good. But there are few functions in it. So I have upgraded it to DVD player navigation system. It’s really awesome, and I’d like to share the experience with you.

If you have the same dashboard with my car, you can follow the instructions below.

1·Start your removal by removing the negative cable from the battery. Then return to the inside of the Mazda 6.

2·Next remove your cup holder.

3·Unscrew and remove the shift knob.

4·Remove the shift trim panel with your fingers.

5·Then remove both sides trim panel of the speed control.

6·Pull out the panel and set it aside.

7·Remove four screws on each side of the speed control with a Phillips-screwdriver.

8·Pull out the speed control slowly.

9·Find two screws under the radio and remove them.

10·Push the top panel and set it aside.

11·Remove two screws with a Phillips-screwdriver as the picture shows.

12·Pull out the factory radio slowly.

13·Disconnect the original harness and set the factory radio aside.

14·Make antennas and cables connected step by step as installation instructions show, and you should be very careful when you are doing this for it will affect whole procedure.

15·Connect the new radio to your Mazda 6, you should check whether your connections are correct, the new unit is in right position, and you’d better have a tidy for the cables.

16·Check whether the unit is working without problem.

17·If everything is OK, firm removed screws that are put aside, then make trim panel back on your new unit.
